The matter how people look at it, gimmicks do work.  We all know that it’s all about the music, but on the other hand, it’s not totally all about the music, it’s how you project music on stage.  One good thing to do is to rock out on practice.  Rocking out with your instrument is a skill like any other, it’s not something that you can do naturally.  You have to practice it, you have to make sure that it looks good on you and on stage.  You should always talk to the crowd.  Be yourself, talk about what I really like, talk to them like they are your friends, and they will become your friends.

You should make an effort of looking the part.  If you’re a pop band, you should look like a pop band.  This gives an added extra effect on your stage performance.
